What, How & Why: A Closer Look - Featuring Lauren Alexander

At iPrintfromHome.com, we work with artists and photographers from across the United States and Canada. We're inspired everyday by the images that they send to us and by the stories they share.

In our "What, How & Why" interview series, we take a closer look at some of these fascinating people.

We've asked each participating artist or photographer three simple questions:

1. What do you do?
2. How do you do it?
3. Why do you use iPrintfromHome.com?

Please read on to find out more about Lauren Alexander.

Lauren Alexander
Watercolor Artist
Overland Park, KS

What do you do?
I am a watercolor artist and I paint fun and colorful things for your home, nursery, or office. I love to use color in new and interesting ways. I am most influenced by nature, animals, music, and kids. I am an art teacher too, so being around people and art every day is a great way to stay inspired.

I love making people happy with my work.

It is the greatest feeling in the world to do something that can make someone smile.

How do you do it?
I generally paint really small 9"x12" or smaller. It makes it easier for me to paint a lot of different things at once. My favorite thing is to paint really small - ACEO size; 2.5"x3.5". I love to do many layers of paint - probably more than a typical watercolor artist, and I think that is how I get my colors so vibrant and bright. I like it when my watercolor paintings don't really look like watercolor anymore!

For a step by step visual of my painting process visit this blog post: Photo Diary of My Painting

Why do you use iPrintfromHome.com?
I use iPrintfromHome.com because I don't print from home! I am frustrated by all that goes into home printing with the ink, paper, etc. I have found that iPrintfromHome.com has an amazing quality print that is extremely professional. When I needed a way to print my small ACEO paintings, I went to iPrintfromHome and decided to have them printed on 3.5"x5" paper - a perfect fit for framing. People really like that size and they are a big part of my online store! Fast and friendly service is also a plus - I am big on customer service and I love working with a company that operates on that high of a level.

Jodi Ohl
Mixed Media Artist
Aberdeen, NC

What do you do?
I am a largely self taught mixed media artist, currently residing in Aberdeen, NC but originally from Dunkirk, NY.

My work is known for it's distinct texture, bold colors & color combinations and often whimsical subjects. I've been published in a variety of issues of national mixed media magazines, such as Somerset Studio and Cloth Paper Scissors. This year, I've also embarked on a variety of teaching engagements both locally and online.

While finding a sense of home and community tends to be a central theme in most of my work, I also incorporate the triumphs and struggles a woman faces finding balance while still pursuing her dreams.

My work can be found on Etsy: www.lucysweetlucy.etsy.com. To follow my artistic and personal musings, please visit my blog Sweet Repeats: www.sweetrepeats.blogspot.com. I also welcome emails and commission orders at johl3@windstream.net.

How do you do it?
My technique involves incorporating a variety of acrylic mediums and assorted ephemera to build the base of most of my paintings. Then I finish them off with journaling, charcoal and pen enhancements. I typically work with a limited color palette within collections of 5-10 pieces.

Why do you use iPrintfromHome.com?
As an artist, iPrintfromHome.com has been a great partner in expanding my available inventory of artist goods. Not only is it affordable, the customer service is top notch. The partnership forged with each of their customers is truly a great asset the iPrintfromHome team offers to each and every one of their clients.

ACEO Prints

Something pretty cool happened at the end of last week that I'd like to tell you about.

We just recently began offering ACEO Prints. We kept getting e-mails from customers asking us if we print ACEOs, but the customers always also included the print size in the e-mail. So we always answered based on the print size, saying, "Yes, we do print 2.5x3.5 prints. You can order them as wallet prints." Then one day we decided to do a little research and find out what ACEOs actually were.

We found out that ACEO is an acronym that stands for Art Cards, Editions and Originals. And, we found some more good information in this eBay Guide: So, what is ACEO anyway?

We searched eBay and Etsy to see who was selling ACEOs and how they made them, we got some advice from our customers, and then we started officially offering them. We sent out the first official announcement on Friday in our eNewsletter and then the cool stuff that I mentioned in the beginning of this post started to happen...people started reacting almost immediately.

We got a bunch of orders and questions about ACEOs. But the thing that I find most exciting is that customers started posting the fact that we offer ACEO prints in their blogs, in the Etsy forums and on their websites -- real people out on the web who are a part of the communities we're working with, were out there talking and typing about what we're doing over here at iPrintfromHome.com.

We love that.

We're really happy that you're noticing the moves we're making and that you're excited about the different ways that we can help you at iPrintfromHome.

Keep sending those e-mail requests. We're listening. :o)
