NO MORE TALKING: Portraits by Max Collins

Join us for the opening night of "NO MORE TALKING", a solo show by local artist Max Collins.  The opening event is this Thursday from 6-9pm at iPrintfromHome.

As Max writes, "No More Talking is a body of work fundamentally focused on the social and behavioral effects of digital technology. It is responding to a developing trend of how our behavior is becoming altered as a result of our connection and dependency to the digital tools around us. There is a population interacting with computers to the point where individuals have been diagnosed with internet addiction after displaying traits usually found in cases of substance abuse. The portraits in this series represent the expression and physical state of one of these addicts portraying a stare of blank apathy and disconnection; present yet absent. I've noticed with the development of products like the ipad, children are interacting with this technology at an incredibly young age, so I want to start focusing on the root of this digital addict behavior which is what you see here on display."

Robyn & Dylan Buyskes (Bays-Kiss), the dynamic duo behind Onion Studio:
We are a husband and wife team: we do the dance, we speak without speaking, we know what each other is thinking without words. Having different perspectives, not just because there is a 6" height difference, but also in our creative visions, is what helps complete the stories we capture. We have a passion for capturing emotional wedding stories layered with the love that a couple shares, the essence of who they are. It is in these moments when all the day's shots come together that we are reminded of how lucky we are to share this passion between us.

Having walked the walk, we know what it is like to go through the wedding process. Caterers one day, cake the next. We know you will find relief in our no-pressure, relaxed environment, and convenient-for-you approach.

Artist’s Statement:
“Identity” is an abstract autobiography of my experience as an outsider. I grew up the only non-white kid in my suburban community. I came out publicly at school and at home at the age of 15. I dropped out, moved out, and became a part of Buffalo’s fringe communities- gay youth, and drug culture. I was always on the outside of the mainstream. Others defined my identity by what I was not to them.

It wasn’t until much later in life that I accepted the things that make me different, and chose to celebrate them. In “Identity”, I have created mini-installations that form abstract landscapes or stories that suggest and reflect the solitary beauty of being divergent, different, misunderstood.

Wise is the Owner of 464 and Blink Galleries in Buffalo and is the President of the Emerging Leaders in the Arts Buffalo. Wise, a University at Buffalo graduate, grew up in Hamburg NY, and has lived in the city of Buffalo for the past 18 years.

iPrintfromHome.com is pleased to present Life on a Coral Reef, featuring photography by Mary Lou Frost.

Artist’s Bio:
I enjoyed photography as a hobby, in a rather casual way, for most of my adult life. After I turned 50 I became more adventurous and began scuba diving which led me to underwater photography, something I have enjoyed for 27 years.

During the past 10 years I have turned my attention almost fully to digital
photography. My images have been exhibited at the Buffalo Museum of Science, The Amherst Center for Senior Services and have received recognition in competition. In 2009, I received the Kodak Award for Photographic Excellence from the Niagara Frontier Regional Camera Clubs and the Dorothy Ralph Essay Trophy from the Science Museum Camera Club. I am currently president of the Science Museum Camera Club where I have made presentations on the techniques of digital photography.

I have become an instructor in photography for Elderhostel at sites in Utah and Colorado administered by the Pingree Park campus of Colorado State University. I am also presenting workshops in digital photography at the Amherst Senior Center and other sites in Western New York.

If you are interested in booking a workshop, please contact me at mfrost@roadrunner.com.

Fauxtales: a mini-series of drawings by Chuck Tingley

iPrintfromHome.com is pleased to present Fauxtales, a mini-series of drawings by Buffalo artist, Chuck Tingley. Please join us for the opening reception this Wednesday night at iPrintfromHome.com.

Date: Wednesday, October 27th 2010
Time: 5:00pm - 8:00pm
Location: iPrintfromHome.com/the Campos Group
1016 Niagara Falls Blvd.
Tonawanda, NY 14150
On View: October 27 – November 27, 2010

This new body of work shows a continuation of the artist's realistic approach to artwork through his vivid imagination. This exhibit will be his first show with iPrintfromHome.com and will be comprised of 7-9 small to medium pieces using the technique of drawing and collage on canvas. The opening reception of Fauxtales will be held at iPrintfromHome.com on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 from 5-8 pm. The exhibit will be on display through November 27, 2010 and is free and open to the public.

In Fauxtales, Chuck Tingley explores the meaning behind the text in short stories and fairytales by manipulating the character’s physical features in order to transcend the reality of the narrative. Tingley positions his figures in front of a collage of book print, letting the words dictate the story. Through these new works, Tingley takes classic fairytales and stories and makes them his own. The exhibition will be comprised of mixed media on canvas (pencil, paper, collage, canvas).

Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Chuck Tingley is a promising young talent currently working towards his BFA in painting at Buffalo State College. Tingley has been gaining attention on the strength of his unique and emotionally profound style of artwork. Earlier this year, he had his first solo exhibition, Emotional Effusion, at 464 Gallery on Amherst St, Buffalo, NY.

Reality to Fantasy and Back: photography by Matt Buckley

We're having an art show!

If you're in the Buffalo, NY area, please join us for the opening reception this Wednesday night at iPrintfromHome.com.

Date: Wednesday, April 28 2010
Time: 5:00pm - 8:00pm
Location: iPrintfromHome.com/the Campos Group
1016 Niagara Falls Blvd.
Tonawanda, NY 14150

Artist's Statement:
Over the past year, I have had the chance to visit some of Western New York’s most beautiful, natural landscapes. I feel that in my 6 years being a photographer, my recent images have been stronger than ever. Exploring known and new parks to myself, I help bring the natural beauty to you, in an unnatural way.

Exploring places such as Forest Lawn Cemetery, Woodlawn Beach, Tifft Nature Preserve, Niagara Falls Gorge, Buckhorn Island Park, all stretching from Dunkirk to Niagara Falls. Exposing areas that might be over looked, allows the viewer to not become bored while looking at my pictures. Starting on the left side of each image you visualize the reality of the picture, and as you move towards the middle, you start to question, “What is going on here?” With the viewer getting lost in the heart of the image, objects appear, and spit you back out to the reality on the right side.

Symmetry can be defined as the beauty based on or characterized by such excellence of proportion. My images strongly rely on the idea of symmetry, where people are not used to seeing nature in a symmetrical way, but once you do it is hard to look away.

Taking each picture into Photoshop, and flipping the image to mirror itself, brings out a number of new features for the viewer to see. Most frequently, creating faces and animals, bringing the landscapes to “life”. When looking at my photographs don’t be afraid if they “look back” at you!
