Printing Options - Paper Surfaces and Printing Processes

At iPrintfromHome.com, we offer 8 different types of prints. We're regularly asked to explain the difference between the various options. Please read on to learn more about the Printing Processes we use and the choices you have when you order prints from iPrintfromHome.com.

We use two different printing processes at iPrintfromHome.com: (1) Photographic Printing and (2) Giclee or Photo Inkjet printing.

Photographic Prints
Our Photographic Prints are traditional Photographic Prints. They are printed by exposing light sensitive paper with light and then running the paper through a chemical process. There is no ink involved in the process. These prints can be described as Silver Halide Photographic Prints, Chromogenic Photographic Prints or C-Prints.

We proudly use Kodak Professional Supra Endura VC Digital Paper to print all of our Photographic Prints. This paper offers an extraordinary color gamut and state-of-the art image stability. Photographic Prints are available in four different surfaces: Glossy, Lustre, Matte and Metallic.

Giclee or Photo Inkjet Prints
Our Giclee and Photo Inkjet prints are made by applying ink to paper. We use Epson Ultrachrome professional archival inks to produce our Giclee and Photo Inkjet Prints. These prints are available in Somerset Velvet, Canvas, Glossy & Lustre.

Cost Difference Explained
Many people assume that the higher price of the Giclee and Photo Inkjet Prints means a higher quality print. However, the answer actually has to do with production costs.

The Photographic Printing process has been highly optimized for a digital workflow, meaning that it takes a lot less hand holding to make a Photographic Print than it does to make a Giclee or Photo Inkjet Print. We also don't need to spend any money on inks because there is no ink involved in the Photographic Printing process. Whenever we save money, we always pass those savings on to you in terms of lower prices.

Archival Quality Prints
According to Kodak's website, you can expect Kodak Supra Endura Photographic Prints to last 100 years in typical home display, 200 years in dark storage, and 1 to 5 years in commercial display.

According to Whilhelm Research, you can expect our Giclee and Photo Inkjet Prints to last over 60 years in typical home display, over 100 years in dark storage, and more than 30 years if displayed unframed.

Choices, Choices
Choosing the best finish for a particular purpose is really a matter of personal preference. The best way to learn about the different finishes is to actually see them for yourself. That's why we include our Paper Sampler and Calibration Kit with every customer’s first order (unless the order is a drop shipment to a client!).

We also regularly see customers ordering the same image on a few different surfaces to see for themselves how their images are reproduced by the various printing processes.

Using the "View/Edit Order" Screen

Watch this video for a brief introduction to the tools available on the "View/Edit Order" Screen at iPrintfromHome.com.

When placing an order in the iPrintfromHome.com traditional ordering system, click on "View/Edit Order" prior to proceeding to the checkout. When you make changes to your Printing Preferences, you will now be able to see how those changes will affect your order by viewing onscreen preview images.

The newest improvement to this page is that you are now able to set a "custom crop". You will be able to zoom in & out and drag your image into position within the given print size.

This will give you the opportunity to experiment with different cropping and border options, to see what you like best, prior to proceeding to the checkout.

Drop Shipping Services

iPrintfromHome.com is pleased to offer drop shipping services so that you can send your orders directly to your clients. All you need to do is select “Drop ship to my client/friend” when you select your shipping address during the order placement process.

If you select to have your order drop shipped, your order will be shipped without an invoice or any promotional materials. We will also remove our company name from the return address and send your package in a plain mailer or box without any identifying markings.

For Photographic Prints, we typically include "backprinting" on the back of each print, which includes the name of your file (if the file name is not too long) as well as your iPrintfromHome.com order number. If you do not want backprinting on your prints, please send us an email immediately after your order has been placed to let us know and we will gladly accommodate your request.

We're always looking to improve our services and many of our improvements come as a direct result of customer requests. If you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We'd love to hear what you have to say.

As always, thank you for your continued support of iPrintfromHome.com.

VIDEO: Welcome to iPrintfromHome.com

Hi. I'm Sara Campos and I'd like to welcome you to iPrintfromHome.com. My father started this company in 1979. We began as a darkroom rental lab servicing artists and photographers who wanted to have more control over their printing.

Today, operating as iPrintfromHome.com, we're still basically doing the same thing that we were doing back when the Campos Photography Center first opened its doors. But now, instead of coming to our location to rent our darkrooms and print your work, you can do it all from the comfort of your home with a little help from a computer and the internet. That's why we call it "I print from home".

As my Dad says, "Here we go again, a little older, a little wiser, helping you image your imagination, anytime, anywhere."

We know how important each individual customer is to our business and we do our best to not only meet your expectations, but to exceed them. At iPrintfromHome.com, we provide you with a high quality product that you value, with consistency that you trust and with customer service you can rely on to help make things right if you run into a problem.

At iPrintfromHome.com, we've been working with artists and photographers for over 30 years. We understand what you're looking for - take a look around our site, check out what we have to offer and then give us a try - we'd love to help you image your imagination.

To get started, go to iPrintfromHome.com and click on "How do I Begin?"

Still Standing After All These Years – 25% Off Mounted Photographic Prints

31 years ago, almost to the day, my dad (George Campos) opened Campos Photography Center - a darkroom rental lab for artists and photographers. His customers were people who wanted to have more control over their printing but didn't want to go to a custom lab, didn't have access to their own darkroom, or maybe didn't have the money to invest in creating their own facilities at home.

In celebration of both our anniversary and our newly offered mounting services, we're running a 25% off sale on mounted Photographic Prints through April 2010.

Not only are we still standing strong after all these years, but now that we're offering mounting services, your prints can too. Mounting your prints makes your images self-sufficient. It grants them the independence to stand on their own, to stand out, to look their best.

For more information about our mounting services, please click here

Instructions:
1. Place an order for mounted Photographic Prints at iPrintfromHome.com by midnight on Friday, April 30, 2010.
2. IMMEDIATELY after placing your order, send us an e-mail (here) with "Still Standing Sale – 25% Off Mounted Photographic Prints" in the body of the e-mail.
3. Once we receive your e-mail, we will adjust your order total to account for your 25% discount on mounted Photographic Prints.
*Offer does not include shipping.
**Discounted orders are not guaranteed to be completed within our standard turnaround times, but every effort will be made to do so.

You've already got the perfect gift.

Today marks the beginning of a pretty hectic few weeks. This year, which was a tough year on everyone, is probably going to be a little more stressful than usual. We're all counting our pennies and trying our hardest to make good decisions with the resources we have.

To help ease the stress, we want to remind you about something we've been talking about all year. We've been making one specific suggestion to you over and over again:

Don't bury yourself in your studio, surrounded by an inventory of prints you haven't quite figured out how to sell. Give those prints away. Let people see your work. Once you do, you'll be surprised by how quickly you start hearing from people who want to see more. You'll also be giving a very special gift, a gift that only you can give.

We're celebrating 30 years in business this year. We first published the image featured above in 1982. It's a picture of my Dad and my brother, Chris. Although the picture is old & dated (note the antique light meter in my Dad's hand), the message still rings true.

You've spent a lot of time creating beautiful images. You've poured your heart and soul into your work. This holiday season, when you're thinking of all the people you're thankful for, consider giving them a little bit of yourself. Nothing could be better.

Pictures Make Great Presents

It might feel like Christmas is a long way off, but Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away.

And, you know what happens the day after Thanksgiving - the madness begins.

We're celebrating 30 years in business this year. We first published the image featured above in 1982. It's a picture of my Dad and my brother, Mikey. Although the picture is old & dated, the message still rings true: Everyone knows that pictures make great presents.

You've spent a lot of time creating beautiful images. You've poured your heart and soul into your work. This holiday season, when you're thinking of all the people you're thankful for, consider giving them a little piece of yourself. Nothing could be better.
