Shutterbug Magazine Release Event featuring Phil Pantano's 'The American Worker'

Phil Pantano's photographic series "The American Worker" is the featured cover story in the February 2014 issue of Shutterbug Magazine.  The series tells the story of the hard work and service that goes into The American Dream.

Please join us to celebrate the magazine release and to see the photographic series on display.

From Phil: The February 2014 Issue of Shutterbug Magazine will be featuring a story on my photo series "The American Worker". What, How & Why: A Closer Look - Featuring Phil Pantano

At iPrintfromHome.com, we work with artists and photographers from across the United States and Canada. We're inspired everyday by the images that they send to us and by the stories they share.
In our "What, How & Why" interview series, we take a closer look at some of these fascinating people.

We've asked each participating artist or photographer three simple questions:

1. What do you do?
2. How do you do it?
3. Why do you use iPrintfromHome.com?

Please read on to find out more about Phil Pantano.

Phil Pantano
Photographer
Buffalo, NY

What do you do?
I am a photographer from the Buffalo, NY area. I started taking photos in 1968 when I was 12 years old. My mom had a decent Japanese camera and I started playing around with it and also developing and printing. I continued throughout the years, but not doing any serious work.

I got back into it about 2 years ago and have been obsessed. I am a history buff so I concentrated on taking photos of older industrial facilities that have been untouched by vandalism and graffiti. I like to see it as if a door had been shut 50 years ago and I am opening it back up after all these years. Being a fan of black & white classic movies and TV shows, including Alfred Hitchcock, shows in some of my darker more dramatic shots. I think a photo taken on an overcast and cloud dark day tells more of a story.

Up until this past Winter, I told myself that I would never take pictures of people. That was a big fear of mine. To overcome that fear I started work on a portrait project, The American Worker. I felt that if I could shoot it in my dark and dramatic style, it could work. It turned out to be a success and now I am constantly reading and watching videos on how to improve my portrait shooting.

How do you do it?

I currently shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III. I look for detail, lighting and shadows. It’s hard to describe but when I look at the subject I am photographing, I “see” what the end result will be. After that I process the photo in Photoshop to fine tune the detail and make it look how I “saw” it when I took the shot. I think selective lighting can “tell the story” the best.

Why do you use iPrintfromHome.com?
Why wouldn’t I? I am so lucky to have a fantastic place right in my backyard! I order my prints and pick them up the next day…customers order from my website and they are shipped the next day…customer service is spot on. When I’ve had a problem (because of my mistake) they have been quick to point it out and make sure it gets resolved before it goes too far. On top of that, quality is top notch and pricing is very reasonable. I have never had a complaint from any of my customers. One of my top selling photos is a highly detailed 20x30” print that always wows at any show we have done

Etsy Changed the Rules! (drop shipping services)

Etsy changed the rules! Etsy sellers are now allowed to drop ship orders directly to clients.  To read more about Etsy's policy changes, please click here.

At iPrintfromHome.com, we work with a whole bunch of Etsy sellers. So this is some pretty big news for our community. Unfamiliar with Etsy?  Check it out here: www.etsy.com

We are pleased to offer drop shipping services so that you can send your orders directly to your clients. All you need to do is select “Drop ship to my client/friend” when you select your shipping address during the order placement process.

If you select to have your order drop shipped, your order will be shipped without an invoice or any promotional materials. We will also remove our company name from the return address and send your package in a plain mailer or box without any identifying markings.

For Photographic Prints, we typically include "back printing" on the back of each print, which includes the name of your file (if the file name is not too long) as well as your iPrintfromHome.com order number.

If you do not want back printing on your prints, please send us an email immediately after your order has been placed to let us know and we will gladly accommodate your request.

We're always looking to improve our services and many of our improvements come as a direct result of customer requests. If you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We'd love to hear what you have to say.

As always, thank you for your continued support of iPrintfromHome.com.

Thanks,
the iPrintfromHome.com team

Plan ahead. Review your archives. You already have the perfect gift.

You create beautiful images all year long. You pour your heart and soul into your work.

You might spend your time observing light and positioning yourself to take photographs at exactly the right moment. Or standing in front of an easel with paint brushes, pens & pencils.  Some of you even make your own materials. And still more of you go about your daily lives, working the 9-5 grind, but you have a keen eye and always have camera close by.

You have the gift of an artist's sensibility.  You see beauty in the world and can't help but share it.

This holiday season, when you're thinking of all the people you're thankful for, consider giving them a little bit of yourself. Nothing could be better.

Plan ahead. Review your archives. You already have the perfect gift.

Pictures make great presents.

Try something new this holiday season - DIY Photo Cards

In this video, Sara demonstrates how to make DIY Photo Cards.

Try something new this holiday season. Take the time to create something personal, beautiful and showcase your work while you're at it.

We make cards like those featured in the video all year round. Because we're making them ourselves, we can make as few or as many as we need, and choose the perfect image for each occasion. Check out the video and give it a try. We think you'll be happy with the results.

Not only will you have a high quality photo greeting card to send out to friends and family, but you'll also be featuring your own imagery. One of the simplest things you can do to advance your artistic career is to start sending your work into the world. Let people see the images that you've created. Once you do, you'll be surprised by how quickly you'll start hearing from people who want to see more.
